Just adding my voice to the chorus ...

memory leak I assume, but crashing w 1.1

Up until 1.1, my GalCiv2 game was stable and played well. Since updating to 1.1, I can play for an hour or two and then one of two things occur:

1) Game crashes during QuickSave
2) My screen starts flashing in weird ways - text gets jumbly, etc.

In either case, I hear the classic windows "critical stop" sound and then the only way to get my machine back is to hard-reset it. Which of course means I lose any progress I've made since the prior successful QuickSave.

I always play on a Gigantic map with all the races, so I can see the memory leak thing happening easily.

Just a side tip from seeing many other DX games crash in a similar manner.

When you hear that sound (windows critical stop sound) that usualy means that a dialog box has popped up over the game. Try hitting ESC key (which is used to cancel a dialog box). You may need to hit ESC multiple times as well as tossing in a few alt-tabs to get to the dialog or subsequent dialogs and close them. Eventualy (depending on how persistent the game is with trying to recover from a big error) the game should go away leaving you on the desktop (probably in a different resolution than normal if you play the game at a different resolution than your desktop).

That way you just might avoid having to hard reset the machine (which isn't very good for windows).

of course it's entirely possible that none of this will work at all, this has meerly worked for me on some other games that went nuts on me (most of those were when I had funky/old drivers).
